Wrist conditions

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome - (compression of the median nerve)

Pain, tingling or numbness in the palmar surfaces of the thumb, index and middle fingers. The pain may shoot up the wrist, and tingling is generally worse at night, so the patient has to shake the hand vigorously or wriggle the fingers in order to relieve it. Commonly seen in women who are middle-aged or older. The patient is unable to carry out fine movements, such as sewing or picking up tiny objects such as pins.

Strains and sprains

A tearing of the muscles and ligaments in the wrist, producing pain, swelling and stiffness. A wrist sprain often occurs when the hand is extended to break a fall.

Please note

Wrist pain may be referred from the neck, shoulder or elbow.
